Managing Directors's Message
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
“Praise be to Allah, Who has guided us, and we would not have been guided had it not been for the guidance of Allah.”
[Qur’an, Surah Al-A’raf, 7:43]
In line with the State’s policy, which strives diligently to achieve economic development in Egypt, and recognizing the importance of this development for the welfare and progress of society, as well as encouraging investment in the sugar industry—considered a strategic commodity that must be provided to citizens at an affordable price—technical studies and both local and global variables have confirmed the necessity of expanding this industry. This expansion aims to achieve self-sufficiency in this vital commodity on the one hand, and to reduce the current gap between production and consumption on the other. At present, this gap amounts to approximately 800,000 tons of sugar annually, which is imported from abroad in foreign currency, costing the State Treasury around 140 million US dollars annually.
From this perspective arose the importance of establishing the Nubaria Sugar Manufacturing and Refining Project, with an expected production capacity of 250,000 tons annually through the processing of sugar beet as well as the refining of raw sugar. This project contributes to bridging about 30% of the current gap between production and consumption. In addition to the production of white sugar as the main product, the project also aims to produce important by-products, namely:
- 50,000 tons of beet molasses
- 54,000 tons of beet pulp (animal feed)
These by-products are exported to global markets, generating foreign currency revenues of approximately 10 million US dollars annually.
It is noteworthy that the project represents a significant addition to the national economy, as it contributes to an increase in national income of 202 million Egyptian pounds through local commodity production, in addition to achieving savings in the balance of payments equivalent to 54 million US dollars. Furthermore, the project fosters a comprehensive urban, industrial, and agricultural renaissance in the governorates of the Nile Delta, away from the overcrowded valley, by cultivating approximately 200,000 feddans of reclaimed desert lands with sugar beet, as well as providing both direct and indirect job opportunities.
All these facts confirm that the Nubaria Sugar Company’s project for beet sugar production represents a model national project, aligned with the comprehensive development framework required for the coming stage.
